Pas de Calais

From Coast to marshlands and varied inland landscapes, Pas de Calais, due to its geographical position, offers a unique variety of activities, either for a day, a week end or a long stay.

It’s true nature can be discovered within 3 distinctive areas, from the Western Coast and its 120 kilometres of fine sandy beaches to authentique landscapes in the “Ternois” and “7 Vallees” dales, through the cultural cities and historical territories.

Activity Coast

Only two hours from Paris, London or Brussels, discover the fine sandy beaches, sand dunes and cliffs that stretch along the Côte d’Opale from Calais to Berck-sur-Mer.

Along the way stop and see the charming fishing villages like Audresselles or Wissant and the seaside resorts with their Anglo-Norman style villas like Wimereux, Hardelot or Le Touquet Paris-Plage.

On foot or by bicycle, discover the variety of landscapes of the Côte d’Opale with its ever changing rainbow coloured skies pushed along by the wind which sometimes blows so hard that it’s hard to catch your breath !

Rural Pursuits

The many and varied landscapes of the Pas-de-Calais are so authentique. From the Audomarois marshlands to the peace and quiet of the « Ternois » and « 7 Vallées » dales. From meadows to marshes an atmosphere of complete relaxation and contentment with time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Quaint villages in full bloom, chapels, wayside crosses, a twisted belfry, half-timbered farms and the age old forest where only the trees are able to tell its history. The “7 Vallées” and the “Ternois” share a very passionate and preserved heritage so rich in local traditions.

In the region of Saint-Omer, from Aire-sur-la-Lys to Fauquembergues and from Lumbres to Thérouanne come and experience an encounter between nature and history.

Cultural Inspiration

The bourgeois towns of Béthune and Arras, steeped in Flemish and a little Spanish influences, mark out the limits of a vast territory which covers the Artois plains, the coal mining country and agricultural villages. This land lived through the bitter WWI war where today hundreds of small cemeteries and white crosses stand as souvenirs to the fierce fighting which took place in the area.

The large cobble-stoned squares and tall belfries are so characteristic of the Pas–de-Calais: Béthune’s medieval carillon tolls out from its celebrated belfry, whilst the belfry in Arras, the most prominent part of the Town Hall, is crowned with a golden lion.
